Instagram’s updating your desktop experience to make multitasking easier

Date

Instagram head Adam Mosseri confirmed yesterday that a new desktop design will be rolling out gradually to all users soon.

The refreshed design is “cleaner, faster and easier to use,” with an optimised UI for larger screens.

This includes a new home for the main navigation bar, which was formerly at the top of the screen but has been moved to a side panel. The Notifications and Search tabs pop-up as a small menu when tapped, while the Explore tab displays posts across the entire screen.

HOW THIS MAKES DESKTOP POSTING EASY:

The current version of Instagram for desktop was lagging in parity with the mobile app – you couldn’t publish posts on desktop until October last year, for example.

This update is a welcome one for social media managers or any marketer managing a brand’s Instagram account, as you’ll no longer have to switch to mobile for a better user experience.

It’s easier to get inspired and find new accounts with the refreshed Explore tab, plus you can scroll the feed while seeing your latest notifications or searching for other users in Home.
